Building community through connection
For most of my life, I have been drawn to helping people connect - with each other, with their communities and with activities that bring meaning, movement and belonging.
After spending many years in education and community roles, retirement brought an unexpected opportunity to begin again. Moving interstate meant rebuilding friendships and finding my own place in a new community. Through local groups, shared interests and a willingness to say "yes" to new experiences, I rediscovered the power of connection.
Re-entering the workforce through individual support has deepened my understanding of something I see every day: isolation is one of the greatest challenges facing both older adults and people living with disability. Meaningful relationships, community participation and a sense of belonging are not luxuries - they are essential to wellbeing.
Through Just Be U, I hope to create spaces where people feel welcomed, valued and connected.
Whether that connection begins with individual support, a shared interest, a walk, a game, a conversation or simply a cup of tea, I believe community begins with connection.
